A quieter interior starts with good ceiling soundproofing

More and more people are living or working in buildings with hard floors and light structures. This often leads to noise disturbance: footsteps, sliding chairs or music from the space above. Do you want to create tranquility at home or in the office? Then improving the sound insulation of the ceiling is an effective way to reduce noise transmission.

    Why ceiling insulation is important

Sound does not only travel through the air, but also via building structures. Especially in apartments, offices, and older buildings, this can lead to audible impact or airborne noise. By installing an acoustic system with mass, acoustic decoupling, and cavity filling in the ceiling, sound transmission is significantly reduced. The result is increased peace and comfort in the space below.

    Modern systems make the difference

Where previous custom-built solutions were mostly necessary, there are now systems that combine mass and damping in a single product. The Phonotech PH acoustic ceiling panel is an example of such a solution. This lightweight, high-quality panel system offers excellent sound insulation and is easy to install on various substrates. The Phonotech PH is suitable for ceilings in houses, apartments, and commercial buildings, making it ideal for renovation and utility projects.

Depending on the type of ceiling

The existing ceiling construction determines which solution is most suitable:

    • Wooden ceiling
A wooden ceiling has relatively little mass, allowing air noise, such as voices or music, to spread easily. An isolated ceiling with cavity filling and sufficient mass is then an effective solution.
If it concerns impact noise, such as footsteps, ceiling insulation works best in combination with a floating floor in the upper space. This way, vibrations are dampened at the source.
    • Concrete ceiling
A concrete ceiling inherently has a high mass, which largely prevents air noise. However, in cases of intense noise or specific situations (such as hospitality or technical rooms), additional insulation may be necessary. An isolated ceiling can then be a valuable addition.
Impact noise also here: the most effective approach is combining ceiling insulation with a floating floor above.
