Canbast Acoustic is a sustainable acoustic panel made from natural hemp fibre. The material improves the acoustics in spaces by effectively absorb ing sound and at the same time contributes to a lower environmental impact. Thanks to the natural fibre structure of hemp grown in the Netherlands, Canbast Acoustic combines excellent acoustic performance with a particularly low ecological footprint.

The hemp used for Canbast Acoustic absorbs large quantities of CO₂ from the atmosphere during growth. As a result, the material stores more CO₂ than is released during production and processing. In this way, Canbast Acoustic represents a future-proof choice for projects where acoustic comfort and sustainability go hand in hand.

While recycled materials, such as cotton fibres, reuse existing raw materials, Canbast Acoustic goes a step further. The hemp actively absorbs CO₂ during growth, meaning the sustainability benefits are realised right from the outset of the supply chain. As a result, the environmental impact is not only minimised, but the raw material also makes a positive contribution to the climate even before production.

    Why Choose Canbast Acoustic?

Ideal as Sustainable Acoustic Cavity Fill

Canbast Acoustic is excellent as cavity fill-in in acoustic wall and ceiling constructions. The open fiber structure effectively absorbs sound within the construction and helps reduce unwanted sound reflections. As a result, the material provides a sustainable alternative to traditional acoustic fillings.

    Excellent sound absorption

Canbast Acoustic effectively absorbs sound across a broad frequency range. As a result, it reduces echo and improves speech intelligibility in offices, schools, public spaces, hospitality venues, and homes.

    Made from natural hemp fibres

Hemp is a fast-growing raw material that requires little water and can be cultivated without pesticides. As a result, hemp is one of the most sustainable natural fibres for construction and interior applications.

    CO₂-negative solution

During growth, hemp absorbs more CO₂ than is necessary for the production of the end product. As a result, Canbast Acoustic actively contributes to reducing the CO₂ emissions within construction and renovation projects.

    Circular Use of the Plant

Almost the entire hemp plant is given a purpose. The high-quality fibres form the basis for Canbast Acoustic, while other parts of the plant are used for applications including the textile industry and pharmaceuticals.

    More Than Just Acoustics

In addition to excellent acoustic properties, Canbast Acoustic also has thermal properties. As a result, the material contributes to a comfortable indoor climate.

    Sustainability of hemp

Hemp is known as one of the most sustainable raw materials for construction and insulation applications.

    • Grows quickly without intensive irrigation
    • Requires little to no pesticides
    • Absorbs large amounts of CO₂ during growth
    • Consists of a renewable raw material
    • Supports a circular supply chain
    Dimensions

Canbast Acoustic is available in different thicknesses and densities, ensuring a suitable solution for every acoustic application.

    • 40 mm - 1100 x 600 mm - High density (100 kg/m³)
    • 80 mm – 1100 x 600 mm – Low density (35 kg/m³)
    • 100 mm – 1100 x 600 mm – Low density (35 kg/m³)

The different versions offer flexibility for both wall and ceiling constructions. Depending on the desired acoustic performance and available installation height, you can choose the most suitable variant.

    Acoustic performance

Canbast Acoustic is independently tested by Peutz according to the international standard EN-ISO 354:2003.

    Absorptiegrafiek Canbast Acoustic

The measurement results show that the material effectively absorbs sound and thus contributes to a pleasant acoustic in a variety of applications.

    Fire Safety

Canbast Acoustic is classified according to DIN EN 13501-1 Fire Class C. This classification provides insight into the fire behaviour of hemp wool for various applications. As a result, Canbast Acoustic is not only a sustainable and acoustically effective solution, but also a responsible choice regarding fire safety.

    FAQ

Is Canbast Acoustic suitable as cavity fill?

Yes. Canbast Acoustic is widely used as cavity filling in acoustic wall, ceiling, and partition wall constructions. The open fibre structure helps to reduce sound reflections within the construction and contributes to better acoustic performance.

Which density best suits my application?

Canbast Acoustic is available in low density (35 kg/m³) and high density (100 kg/m³). The correct choice depends on factors such as available installation depth, construction setup, and desired acoustic performance. Our specialists are happy to advise you on the most suitable variant.

    Can Canbast Acoustic be customised?

The panels are easy to cut to size with a serrated knife. As a result, they can be easily adapted to the dimensions of a wall, ceiling, or partition construction.

Why is hemp wool increasingly being used in construction?

Hennepwol is a bio-based raw material that stores CO₂ during growth and can be cultivated with relatively little water and pesticides. As a result, interest in hemp as a sustainable alternative is increasing within construction and renovation projects.

Is Canbast Acoustic suitable for new build and renovation projects?

Yes. Canbast Acoustic is suitable for both new build and renovation projects. Thanks to the various thicknesses and densities, the material can be used in a wide range of wall, ceiling, and partition wall constructions.
