Basotect Edge is a lightweight melamine foam with excellent sound absorption and thermal insulating properties. The open cell structure ensures effective sound absorption across a wide frequency range. Additionally, the material is resistant to high temperatures and meets fire safety class EN 13501-1 C, s2, d0 & B1 according to DIN 4102.

This variant features beveled edges (Edge), providing a clean visual appearance with less noticeable seams between the panels. It is therefore ideal for improving acoustics in  spaces.

In addition, Basotect is widely used in technical installations, enclosures, vehicles, and appliances. Its low weight makes it particularly suitable for applications where traditional materials are too heavy or impractical.

The standard panels measure 1200 x 600 mm and are available in thicknesses of 30 and 50 mm. Available in white and light grey. Other sizes, shapes, or thicknesses can be supplied on request.

    Finish

Basotect Melamine foam is sensitive to temperature fluctuations and changes in humidity. These influences can lead to minor deformation, such as expansion or contraction of the material. Therefore, it is recommended to acclimatise the panels in the room where they will be used for at least three days before installation.

Melamine foam is relatively delicate and susceptible to dirt or damage. The use of disposable gloves during assembly is recommended to keep the surface clean.

For those looking for a more robust solution, Fireseal HR is a good alternative. This material features a top layer of fiberglass, making it more resistant to impacts and contamination.

Basotect melamine foam edge can be easily glued with a suitable mounting kit, such as Stauf | MKD Extreme Tack. It is important that the surface is clean, dry, and oil-free. The foam can be effortlessly cut to size with a sharp knife.

    Fire safety

Complies with EN 13501-1 C, s2, d0 & B1 fire classification according to DIN 4102 and is resistant to temperatures up to 80 °C.

    Tolerances

With variation in humidity, the material can expand or contract by approximately 5%.

The surface of the material may contain small hollows or irregularities.

    FAQ

What is the difference between Basotect Melamine foam Edge and Basotect Melamine foam Flat?

With Basotect Melamine Foam Edge, the edges are beveled. This design makes it particularly suitable for visible applications, where panels are assembled flush. Due to temperature fluctuations, slight shrinkage or expansion may occur. Thanks to the beveled edge finish, the seams are less visible in the Edge variant compared to the flat version.

Does the edge finishing affect the acoustic performance?

No. The Edge finish has no impact on the acoustic result.

What is the difference between Basotect melamine foam and standard melamine foams?

Basotect melamine foam is distinguished by extensive testing of its acoustic properties. As a result, the acoustic performance is demonstrable and reliable.

How does the edge finishing contribute to a cleaner final result?

The edge finishing provides a cleaner and more even final appearance when panels are mounted directly adjacent to each other. The beveled edges make seams less noticeable.

Basotect melamine foam is available in white, grey, and dark, allowing the color to be matched to the application for an aesthetically finished result.

What is the lifespan of Basotect Melamine foam Edge under normal use?

The lifespan of Basotect Melamine Foam Edge depends on the conditions in which the material is used. When it is correctly installed and used under normal conditions, you can expect a minimum lifespan of approximately 10 years.

To what extent does Basotect Melamine Foam Edge improve speech intelligibility?

Basotect Melamine Foam Edge is widely used in spaces where echo is present, with the aim of improving speech intelligibility. Due to its sound-absorbing properties, the material reduces reverberation, contributing to a quieter and better understandable acoustic environment.

In which areas is Basotect Melamine Foam Edge most commonly used?

Basotect Melamine Foam Edge is an easy self-assembly solution and is widely used in offices, hospitality venues, industrial applications, and domestic settings.

What is the weight of a sheet of Basotect?

Basotect melamine foam has a density of approximately 18 kg/m³. The panels have a standard size of 120 × 60 cm.

    This means:

    • 30 mm thickness: approximately 400 grams per sheet
    • 50 mm thickness: approximately 650 grams per sheet

Thanks to its lightweight design, the material is easy to handle and install, even when mounting on walls or ceilings.

What glue is suitable for mounting Basotect Melamine foam Edge?

Stauf MKD Extreme Tack mounting glue is especially suitable for bonding Basotect Melamines Foam Edge. This glue ensures a strong and durable bond.
